the basic premise when building this site was that every map deserves a home. a place where it can be presented in the best way possible to honor the author's work and be useful to players, complete with media and any available information. we are a best described as a wiki, not just a file hosting site or a database in the literal sense. so if there is a mass treasure chest of maps that need to be added i suggest trying to fill out each page with as much rich content as you can. we only want one page per map title, not for every .bsp or old version. and again, sticking to the guidelines mentioned previously they would need to be actual functional maps suited for co-op player play, have an ending, and not be complete crap. there are definitely a lot of maps still not here, probably more than we will ever get to, so i think most contributors have focused their limited time towards finding and uploading the better maps first. that still seems like a good strategy. to be honest, i have never asked anyone about adding their map, and have not received a single takedown request or copyright inquiry in the 8+ years of running scmapdb. the svencoop.com forum map showcase states that all maps released there become freeware free to be reuploaded anywhere unless explicitly stated otherwise. considering that almost every map in SC history was released there, and the mappers for most old maps are no longer around anyway, i think that clears up a lot. if a mapper tries to 'unrelease' a map i think that causes a lot of confusion and disconnect between players and servers. once a map is out in the wild it is hard to undo that, and players will expect to be able to find and download it here. my assumption has always been that mappers would be very happy to have their work showcased, and if someone really had an issue they could request a removal. its not like wikipedia which falls under fair use. instead, we are distributing the actual intellectual property (map download) along with the wiki page, so both legally and in the spirit of treating mappers respectfully they would have the final say. i dont think this is a big issue, and would represent an extremely small % of the total population of maps.
