I am infuriated, certain people have taken it upon them-self to remove anyone's map that isn't 100% professional. That isn't right. I guess the Database isn't a Database anymore. I get not including a literal map with a box and a light, but people have made fun custom small maps that deserve to not be removed from the database.

Not maps that certain people liked, or even good maps, but EVERY SVENCOOP MAP, but no, some of you have taken it upon yourselves to shit all over peoples creations that they have slaved over, you guys are in the wrong, not me, not the mappers.
There are a number of maps violating wikidot policy, but reporting them all seems like more of a witch-hunt than McCarthyism.
Establish a clear set of guidelines that apply to all new maps on the site, new violators will be removed, while posts that are already in violation will remain being "grandfathered" in by existing before such guidelines were created. That being said if wikidot staff come here and demand the removal of content, by all means do so.
I recommend:
1. having a minimum amount of playable material (a walkthrough map like ghostfuck is probably a minimum standard here, being a "walkthrough" map with basic objectives; I would say that maps also need a definite 'ending' requiring something to change the level)
2. having the playable portion of content comply with wikidot's terms of service
3. having a "minimum average playtime" standard, this prevents "shit-posting" of hastily made low quality maps.
Using this standard needs it to be calculated using a minimum of *two* players, reviewers can post the amount of time it takes them to complete the map.
Ghostfuck being currently in violation of 1, 2, and 3 would normally warrant it's removal, but because of it's date of inception should be exempt from these rules.
For specific details of it's 2 violation, it violates the terms of service by including "any Content that contains nudity, violence, pornography, "adult content" or contains links to any other web site with such materials"
Make these rules clear to all members of this site, and keep them posted in well known locations. We don't need another instance of racist violence or penis monsters (both from ragemaps) in main-stream Sven Co-op maps.

Agreed. I don't even think there are enough mappers for "box with a light in it" maps to become a problem. If it were up to me I would upload everything, no matter what state, no matter how offensive (as long as it's legal), and at worst tag stuff with "literal-garbage" and section them off somewhere.

Although a line must be drawn (at obviously offensive stuff, made for the sole purpose of causing offence and upset) it would be a real shame if political correctness dominated the criterion by which maps on SCMapDB were judged to be acceptable or not. Since the beginning of Sven Co-op, a healthy amount of often Adult humour has been a welcome ingredient of more than a few maps. There have been more than a few NSFW rooms in more than one map, we all know which ones I'm referring to, and really, it's not been a big problem. Ok, so Steam release meant that official maps had to be sanitized and that's the price to pay for going mainstream, but it would be a sad day indeed to see everything that has been created now purged to the point of uniform blandness and political-correctness.
Kindly don't allow a personal argument end up ruining historically acceptable content for everyone. It's ridiculous that previously acceptable content now has to be stashed away in personal archives, just because of some argument that got out of control. Whilst I'm really not bothered about playing ghost-fuck, I am unhappy that this current spat sets a precedent that threatens to purge anything interesting, humorous, risque or rude from the database, leaving nothing but blandness remaining. Adult humour has always had a small place in SC content, let's all just please mantain some perspective and not set some non-reversable precedent that spoils the fun for everyone.
By all means remove worthless dross, and if there is any, properly offensive content but for the sake of fun/amusing/interesting maps, no more witch-hunts or purges. So long as it's either slightly hidden, or disguised a bit, I'm all for penis-monsters because they're hilarious. Just look at the finale of ragemap2016, with the giant Boss and it's flying minions - it was a masterpiece, worked on by many people, accepted by all. Nobody posted messages of outrage on the SCMapDB page, and everyone I played it with thoroughly enjoyed it. Why then, must this be purged? It's the thin end of the wedge, there must be a little creative freedom allowed, or there will be no more classics, just boxes with Agrunts.
I'm not saying that everyone should be able to get away with anything, and sometimes certain people will need to be brought back into line, but don't set some draconian PC rules now, which will spoil the enjoyment of many. Otherwise, the content will just be hosted privately, and there will be two versions of the map archive, with all the hassle and problems that will bring, regarding synchronisation.
Don't worry. 99% of sven coop is community content, which is not at all connected to the Steam political correctness, its like a wild beast, just look at gmod workshop. Now, I havent checked but if maps are being deleted from SCMapDB (and they are not just a room and a zombie), that is not good.
I would suggest that if maps are going to be purged from this place because they don't have an ending or they are unfinished, instead move them to a section of unfinished/work in progress stuff. Just like I did with KH remastered, I took an unfinished map and fixed it, where did I got it from? SCmapdb. Next time if you delete the maps entirely, who is going to fix them? nobody because they are gone.
On the other hand, removing "offensive" maps? Thats just not good at all. Political correctness has infested the world by now and its bad. At this rate we won't be able to crack a joke about an ant because it "offends" some guy because he has an ant farm. Just stop it. really. Its a game, and nothing in it is offensive.
I think you're mixing up ragemap 2012 with 2016. Ragemap 2012 had the penis boss and flying minions. 2016 had a massively racist section about murdering black people. 2012 is still on the DB, 2016 was removed (or at least part of it was).

ragemap2016_2 had a couple of text-to-speech songs with "kkk" in them. Deleting/replacing those songs is enough to sanitize it. The scientists all being one color isn't racist unless there are hateful messages to go with it (imo). Otherwise the slaughter section in fun_zone_sc (and others?) should be banned too since all the scis are white.
The context being removed doesn't change the fact that it was originally designed by Nero to be about murdering black people. I don't think its existence can be justified at this point, with or without the racist messages in the map. Allowing it to be in the map at all promotes Nero's shitty behavior.

If you want to go full delete, then I'd ask for the ones with the rmf file to delete it and recompile without that part. Done.
It's fun, not a box with a light, and was originally clean. That should be more than enough justification. Delete 2 songs from the archive and it will comply with the wikidot rules. More edits can be done later if anyone cares enough to do them.
Then change it. Talking about how easy it is to fix doesn't change the fact that there is an unskippable part where you have to kill black NPCs while a racist song is playing. Make an effort that goes beyond whining.

This sounds ok to me. The map unfortunately will forever be tainted, at least in some of our memories, but I don't think that's grounds to block a clean version from the DB. If all racist references are 100% removed and validated to be gone, then it would not technically be breaking any rules.
Alright, it's back up. The songs were removed from the archive and the scientist skins were set to random (-1). Ironically, "random" = 100% Walter.

Exactly. It's a game where the objective is to shoot enemy combatants in the face, as accurately as possible, to get the biggest splash of blood and the quickest kill. Really, in comparison to the game fundamentals, a few penis monsters are fairly trivial. Just get some perspective, that's all - if brutal, explicit slaughter is fine, then so should be a small amount of smutty humour.
I will review the last year of deleted maps and see if any should be brought back, along with revisiting the posted rules. I started this site because I was tired of maps being lost forever because someone's link went dead, or because they were put on an unreliable or untrustworthy site with varying policies. Definitely don't want people to have that same feeling that they need to maintain their own archive, so it is deeply frustrating to hear that.
Map removals should be done on a case by case basis and only when absolutely necessary. If something is complete trash (i.e., fullbright box) or focuses on extreme inappropriate content as a major theme, it would generally be up for removal. Beyond those, I'd prefer to use page tagging and ratings to keep things organized. Possibly we could make a hidden "objectionable" tag category for maps that veer way too far into the gray but don't deserve to be fully wiped out. Unfinished maps are supposed to get the abandoned tag, which allows most unfinished work as long as there's at least a .bsp file. Abandoned maps are mixed with all other maps on the site (not hidden), but there is a warning when downloading that it may not be fully playable.
Not too concerned about the Wikidot policies — they are not a giant corporation, and we have a good relationship with them. Nothing has reached the point of them taking action on the site.

- Just a Test (exploration map that's well made but short. The mapper was modest by calling it a test, but it needs a game_end)
- Kill Tor (slightly more advanced than a box map. Needs a game_end)
- Osprey Arena (crashes on start - probably a box map)
- Tututu (playable map series that didn't meet some admin's quality bar)
- ZS Lost City (horde map)
Many of them are worth a play. If admins can't stop deleting maps that don't meet their standards then someone should make an unrestricted DB for all maps. That might be a good idea anyway just so we don't ever get in trouble with wikidot by uploading maps with dicks/porn in them.
Thanks - I will check on these. If a map is missing game_end, that is more of a bug report that should be commented on, or the map can be tagged to "abandoned" if it's in an unfinished state but otherwise has playable material. Plus it could be ripented by the community at some point.

About the rest, well, Ragemap2016 does need some change, but are you saying that the original archive was replaced by a racist version!? I thought that was originally like that.
Osprey Arena may be could be taken a look at, there were some old maps that crashed on start but were fixed, that one could have the same issue (the problem with infiltrate.bsp for example, was an extra { at the end of the entity list that made no sense)
Evil town/dark city, is playable and not playable at the same time, plus it lacks game_end. Personally I do not recommend it. It is just a street level with a lagging amount of enemies with monstrous amounts of hp, and very lacking in the weapons department. I do not believe this map can be fixed and make any sense at all. On the plus side of this one, there are models (and animations) never seen before anywhere else that could be used in other maps :)
ZS Lost City, is playable but I do not recommend it. This one is part of a series of releases that are all the same. These are ripents made out from CSO maps, with CSO zombie npcs, but not good ones. It is made for 32 player full servers with lots of weapon plugins and probably XP plugin as well. Meaning these kind of maps have huge amounts of zombies, with huge amounts of health (over 20k each), in just a very tiny map, with clipping problems (players can go through floors or walls sometimes), personally not enjoyable at all, and I believe it should stay deleted.
anitalink lobby, this one is a server specific map, that I believe its ok to be deleted since the server I think has been dead for years now.
Ghost Fuck, I think this one was from keen, I can't remember well what it was, but I think I get it as to why it was deleted, since IIRC it had explicit sexual content (plus it had no game end)
area 3, just a test, fight for life 2, dark souls spawn test, are box maps and test maps. I personally think its ok to delete them because box maps should die (nobody will fix them or play them, I assure you). And test maps well… they're tests. I rather have them on gamebanana where there is a WIP section. But perhaps can be added here as "abandoned"? if someone wants them.
Escape from the complex… I do not remember this one, perhaps never played it. But if it is a box map then it should die.

What if we had a page for entire categories of maps like this? For instance, "Server Lobbies" for server lobby maps, "Garbage Zone" for abandoned maps that don't meet the quality bar. That way the map browser doesn't get too cluttered (assuming that's the concern) and the maps aren't lost forever.
Unfinished/short/low-effort maps can still be enjoyable. There's usually at least one thing unique or interesting about them. Look at big_room_guy2. It has less content than Ghost Fuck but some guy in the comments can't get enough of it! I also noticed that my "nothing" map is played somewhat regularly, but I didn't upload here thinking it would get deleted for being a box.
I think that's what I would do. But also would try to categorize maps with one extra category on top of yours. Like this:
Server lobbies (server lobby maps)
Garbage zone (here would go the famous boxes and maps that are unfinished way beyond repair/ripent fix)
Unfinished (maps that look at least "ok", but don't have a game_end or are quite unfinished but have the possibility to be fixed one day)
This way we can maybe one day fix the unfinished maps by finding them easily on the unfinished tab. Knowing that they are cool but lack the ending.
Interesting points. For many of us, the "do nothing"/garbage maps were a part of our SC upbringing, despite their flaws, so I can understand why they may have some value.
The site has been primarily focused on actual playable maps intended for SC—first targeting finished maps as priority, but also accommodating WIP and abandoned content. The ideas mentioned could possible utilize the tagging system. I would want to make sure the site stays clean of unwanted clutter but also does not make the tagging system too burdensome to maintain.
Currently these tags are used:
- unreleased - No playable download exists.
- Disables all ratings.
- Map visible throughout site.
- work-in-progress - Still being worked on with regular progress updates (any stage allowed—alpha/beta/concept. Can overlap with "unreleased").
- Map visible throughout site.
- Content disclaimer shown on download.
- abandoned - Development stopped, map unfinished. Must have some "playable" content even if it is broken or has no end. "Playable" can be interpreted loosely. Technically, unfinished/garbage should already be going here.

It is possible to make tags which cause the map to be hidden across all site lists (i.e., a "garbage zone"), becoming accessible only via direct link, search query, or from a special list. I had thought about using this on"abandoned", but decided against since there are actually quite a few nice maps there. It seems the definition has been interpreted to encompass any case in which a developer discontinues support (even on an otherwise finished and polished map). Definitely open to suggestions. It may be helpful to break out the abandoned category into more specific tags to allow better filtering and organization.

OK good ideas, but don't pay too much attention to the votes and definitely don't hide maps based on "popularity" for the simple reason that votes aren't a reliable indicator of map quality. There are quite a lot of good maps and a few very good maps in the 'worst 50', the fact of the matter is that only a few people vote and they are often the ones that like to stick 1 star on everything, for reasons best known to themselves.

Can I upload these? Most of them are low quality, and some I distinctly remember being here before. Maybe the really bad stuff can be lumped together into one big terrible "series".

the broken ones… I remember that some really old maps crashed because they suddenly had an extra "{" at the end. Perhaps if some of those are the case, they can be easily fixed. If not then they are not worth uploading if they can't be played or fixed imho.
If you end up lumping together all worthless maps, make sure they are truly worthless. I mean, i'd do it like this:
worthless maps (broken, crashes, fun-chill, no gameplay and the rest) <—- lump this
And about playable needs ending <—- this could be fixed if some maps are interesting. I even may do some myself if they are useful to me.
Aaaand to shine a bit of light, the e1m1, e1m2… that map name structure could be clashing with the Operation Black Thunder maps that have the same names (if it isnt the same maps). There was a release by spywarrior with fixed spawnpoints and added aliens, but the rest was all broken (even more broken than when you just play the maps from the mod if you directly copy them to the sven folder so I really don't know what spywarrior did there to break them so bad). I actually was fixing this conversion, making it more interesting as well, and using the maps from the mod as reference (that are the same but they don't have the broken entities), its almost 90% done but its going slow so don't sit on it. I believe this time I will actually rename the maps since "e1m1" is a map name structure very commonly used in half life mods and could bring some problems in the future (if someone else ripents more mods). So please check if it actually is Operation Black Thunder by spywarrior, because it could be that it isnt and that would be a problem.

I stumbled upon Quad2, beton and grime in your map list. Probably you have them due to testing them back then.
They shouldn't be released as they are supposed to be private test maps.
Right, forgot to move those to the do-not-upload folder. Uni2, txas, and a few other private maps were there too.
The next maps should be cleaned up! (delete old versions or merge with the newer versions!) as they have been updated and are taking a lot of pages!

Garompa - thanks so much for your help consolidating these. I agree they are best consolidated. I noticed the final pages have fewer screenshots overall - do you think they deserve a few more before we look to delete the old pages?
I uploaded the maps listed above as a map pack for now. The map series starting with e1m1 was Operation Black Thunder, so I left that out along with the private betas.

The merged argentina pages that Garompa created have all the screenshots from the older pages now, as well as details, credits, and comments. I think it's safe to delete those 8 extra pages now, but I'll wait until that's OK'd.
Thank you. I deleted the excess Argentina related pages now. Regarding the miscellaneous missing maps from your folder, most of those seem like they should be fine. Not yet sure how we should handle any that are only an empty box, or if they are broken. Otherwise, just want to try to use the full map titles wherever possible, either interpreted from the .bsp filename or from the readmes, etc., and also ensure that the pages have adequate screenshots and documentation etc. On a sidenote, I'm impressed to see someone still has my random_map2 and rsvm_v3b votemaps from Snark Cafe.
