I’ve taken a trip down nostalgia lane and been reading the reviews and watching some Youtube’s of the map - really pleased so many people seem to enjoy it and still play it. Quite humbling really.

Some questions keep coming up regarding the map, so I decided to answer them below:

What was the plan with the map? Is it unfinished?

Yes the map is unfinished. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, in 2011/12 I was hitting Gold Source’s brush and entity limits near constantly - this was prior to release. So I eventually came to the acceptance to wrap up what I had, tidy and get the most out of the map that I could.

I was heavily inspired by a few maps I loved over the years: Osprey, for its replayability and heavy action orientation; Incoming, for its random mission structure; the original HL & OPFor campaigns for their atmosphere and storytelling; and lots of different SC maps for how they handled co-operation online. I took lots of these elements and tried to make a map that would be constantly busy, replayable and with high quality Black Mesa looks and atmosphere.

If the limits hadn’t been there the plan would have been to release it with about 10 missions across 4 layers, that could all be randomly triggered. With that number it should be possible that people get a unique experience each time they play, for up to about 100 or so playthroughs.

Why is the laser puzzle so hard?

It was kind of deliberate as I wanted players to have a challenge getting through - it should be possible to crouch jump through the lasers and manually deactivate the terminal at the end. IMHO it is worth doing that in order to get the friendly robogrunts in the next room, who can then be taken around the facility, including guarding the spawn area.

Where did I go?

Simply: real life took over. Work, girlfriends, marriage, children etc.

When will it be updated?

I haven’t touched it since 2012, so it’s very possible that the limits I had before have been lifted. That said, I don’t currently have plans to revisit in the near future, due to a lack of time from having two young kids, including a 3 month baby. In a few years that will ease, and if the project is still going then I’d love to finish it! In the meantime I am occasionally active on the SC Discord under the handle ‘Mutant’ if you wanted to contact me.

even if.. "hostages are hostile and revive enemies"

this map can complete.. i tried this map 30 times for complete. i did..

something like a fake rope that acts as a ladder, in the second part a parkour of logs or something similar that are supported by fake ropes

OOOooooOOh, you could replace the rope part with ladders and wooden logs from the previous part, lol it would still work

Yeah my original plan for this map was numerous missions, each triggered randomly on each play through, so you got a unique game each time (even some of the missions you knew, the order should be new). The final arena, which was planned to include an area similar to HL's surface tension and an osprey, was unfinished as I was hitting Gold sources entity and brush limits.

My time is still really limited still now (grown up with young kids), but my son will soon be old enough to play this game, so that might inspire me to return and finish it according to the original vision.

The intention with this area was for it to go to an outdoor area with an osprey deployed. One of my favourite SC maps of all time is Snipers' Osprey - I love it's action orientation and replayability, and this area would likely have been similar. Alas, around this time I started to hit Gold Source's entity and bsp limits in the compiler, so I had to limit the ending with the brush and leave it unfinished, not to mention many other extensions I had planned.

As an old Sven Co-op players who started playing 15 years ago.
It was simply amazing and fun to go through the whole series of Secret City maps again, which we thought were the most fun maps,
which is why every few years we returned to the game every time a new map came out.
We were excited and waiting every time to a new Secret City map to be released.
Anyway, We were filled with a lot of nostalgia and memories to play this wonderful re-mastered version.
everything was perfect except for one bug (at least we couldn't figure out how to pass it) in the first Secret City map (scrm_secretcity)
After finding the Blue Keycard, instead of taking us to the blue room, it would take us out somewhere else, and we couldn't move forward until we did a noclip and opened the room door manually from the button.
Anyway, many thanks to all the people who took part in these maps throughout the years and made us enjoy the game

Thanks, I have gone and fixed it. The door now should trigger properly, and as a failsafe it explodes when passing through with the train so there is no way it can get stuck on closed again :)

In the second map during the part where you have to ride the cart with the air supply, the door into the gas room only opens once. So a player on foot can go in, get gassed and die, and the door is permanently closed, keeping anyone on the cart from getting through.

i thought at first mike would actually shoot the balloons and all but apparently friendly npc's cant shoot monsters that are prisoned/has AI disabled so i just left him there

I uploaded a hotfix for most of the bugs. The bullsquid area should be fixed, but clips are sometimes buggy and if forced you maybe could go out of bounds.

1- this is intentional. trigger_respawn doesn't actually respawn players it seems, but rather teleports them. So if you are still alive you dont get the effects of the changed cvar to get the suit activated. That is unless you die first and get respawned properly.
2- intentional, because you dont have the suit so there is no hud display whatsoever
3- unfixable :( barneys in the train are moved via a setorigin otherwise they would get the train stuck. This also makes their AI bug out most of the time it seems as they want to run but can't, hence why they stop shooting. At the same time, they seem to be a bit floating, because the train collision box isn't perfect (you can see this yourself by going into the train with third person camera, your feet will be in the air too hehe)
4- rotating elevator? i don't remember one. But if an elevator has crush damage that may be intentional, we dont want trolls or npcs softlocking the maps :P it may lead to collateral damage and sometimes kill a player or npc though, but we have to live with that. Thats GoldSRC for you.

We enjoyed it, some highs and lows but overall a good one in our opinion. Some things of note

  • We enjoyed Scattering a lot, it really felt like it could have been it's own map if there was a bit more to it. That being said, the fact that the weapons and crowbars don't respawn had us wondering if we softlocked ourselves for a while, thinking we needed to break a vent that we didn't or something. The Kingpin felt like playing the Jeff part of Half Life: Alyx
  • Balloon Colosseum was funny, I liked the comically long crowbars and some of the upgrades. Mike was useless, he didn't do shit (disappointing)
  • Displacer Challenge was a really cool concept and felt pretty polished. The puzzle where you had to shoot the projectile over the directional blocks was a little confusing but that's also just because of how the projectile interacts with the blocks. The helicopter part would have been a 0/10 if I didn't look up a youtube video and remember that there was a tertiary fire on the Displacer.
  • Amogus level was great, the recreation of the map was well done but we didn't really know what we were supposed to do lol. We eventually waited long enough that we seemed to fail and succeed at the same time as the imposter started killing people
  • The puzzle with the colored flames was eluding us, but it pushed us onto the next one before we could really figure it out
  • Coin hunt and ISO7010 seemed to be over so quickly before we even really had a chance to give it a good shot
  • Will of Silver was stressful but not exactly in a bad way, we were freaking out trying to get the crystal back
  • Diner was probably the funniest time we had, but it was so messy at the same time. The subtitles are super jumbled so if you don't actually hear the order, you're probably going to miss it. Putting the food on the plate was super finnicky and only worked sometimes, and I'm not sure why certain small foods like soda weigh you down to the point where you basically can't jump. That one definitely had more potential if it was cleaned up more, but for ragemap probably could have been limited for 4 or 5 waves

Well… sorry for couldnt join test… :(

Im tested myself for take a look maps.
But.. some parts have something problems

1. Seamless teleport gibed me (HEV suit room)
2. Some dialog nothing show up game_text (im not sure about that game_txt)
3. In train part, barney nothing attack HECU.
4. In Rotate elevator part, elevator made player just crush. (This must be goldsrc problem or.. map itself problem)

Also as r0ubrt said off limits problem too
About off limits case, other author's map also happen that.

Other are fine.
I really intetesting gaussgun with 300 damage.
And colorful HEV suit too :)

Map is fun although a bit unintuitive at times. Some of the enemies spawn facing walls, therefore they won't engage you at first glance, making them easy to kill.

You can go off limits in the area where the bullsquids are, and also your gravity bugs out when doing so:

I wouldn't recommend this map for more than 3 maybe 4 people since it can get very claustrophobic, and there's not that many enemies (except for the ending, holy fuck).

also.. some of Cof and Insurgency weapons used same slot.
