Description
This is an open world map with multiple paths to complete it. I was greatly inspired by the "district" maps for Garry's Mod by "a social guarantee".
/Premise/
You arrived into this city on a train and your primary objective is to leave.
Do some jobs for the local criminals (Yakuza, Russian mob, Mobius INC, the police) and get enough money to leave this place.
(Each faction has 4 quests and will mostly lock out eachother, so you should focus on one faction per playthrough)
/Money/
You can get Digibux for completing missions, as well as just finding it laying around. You can buy weapons and other things with it.
You should probably buy a weapon first, because most first missions need a weapon to be completed.
You can also unlock the bus system, which acts as a fast travel method. Be careful with it, because you can accidentally telefrag your friends!
(I am bad at mapping so if you are carrying too much money for something you will need to drop them from the inventory by pressing I)
/Objective/
The questlines will tell you what to do, usually take the money and go back to the train station.
This map is survival mode by default so make sure to buy the medkit and take care of eachother, some fights can be hard.
If you hurt civilians the police will become hostile to you, and will be hostile until the end of the map.
Hurting a faction member will only anger that faction, the police will not care. They also do not care about homeless people.
If you mess up and anger any faction you didn't want to anger, you can restart the map from the train station or by typing "restart" into the console.
If you forgot what an NPC said, you can open the console and read it again from there.

Where to start? Firstly, when I exited the metro, I didn't initially understand what I needed to do (didn't read the MOTD, lol). The city design is fairly simple, easy to navigate. Then, I stumbled upon the Yakuza boss and initially didn't understand what I needed to do or where to go. I returned to the metro entrance and found money, then bought a knife, and for fun, started killing civilians, which caused the entire police force to start attacking me. As a result, I had to restart the map, read the MOTD after all, understood what I needed to do, and began to progress through the map properly. Overall, it's fairly easy to finish in 30-60 minutes.
Pros:
+Open World. Non-linear maps for Sven Co-op are quite rare nowadays. It's even more unique when you need to choose a specific faction, which is a rarity (unless it's the only map where you can do so).
+Design. Fairly responsive, very good for Goldsrc/Svengine. It's remind me of the city maps in Action Half-Life or The Specialists.
+The concept itself. Very straightforward, but implementation isn't bad.
Cons:
-Lags in some places, quite severely. It's especially frustrating when you're shooting at someone at that time.
-Bug with the money, having "too much" of it is quite inconvenient.
-Easy to get lost with the tasks. As someone below suggested, it would be nice if the bosses reminded you what needs to be done. Or just place markers on the required tasks (drawing a couple of specific faction marker sprites and placing them at specific points is quite easy).
Conclusion: The map is very good in terms of design and concept, but the implementation is a bit flawed. Not bad, but sometimes… meh. I really hope the map creator doesn't forget about it and fixes all these issues. Perhaps he could even create something new with a similar concept (open world and the choice of which faction to work for). I went through it alone (not counting the bots, which in this case were my firearms buddies).
7/10. Just keep going!
I really like this kind of maps. Very rich in content and atmosphere (and personality), and it gives a lot of ideas that make me want to map! :)
Quite a few major problems with this map though:
- Survival mode (assuming it’s a good fit for the map), is not well implemented. The player I was with died early in the map, and I couldn’t revive him.
- Besides, I wasn’t sure why I couldn’t buy a medkit. It said: "Not enough/too much money". Why would too much money be a problem?
- I didn’t have any ammo left to complete another task and get more money, so we ended up switching to another map.
- The map is really poorly optimized, a more VIS-friendly structure should have been thought of.
- Would be good if bosses could remind us of the tasks they’ve given us.
- Improvement to the visual aspect would be nice.
someone says you can take money through the morbius safe box and end the map in one minute
Yeah, this probably happened to us. Neophus and I got the message "You now have enough money to leave the city" really early in the map, though I can’t be sure what triggered it.
This map is rather a good start but it could use some improvements.
1) Late joining — Due to survival mode late joiners are stuck in observation mode, which can get boring. Maybe after each mission is complete generate and trigger a checkpoint in the train station? (You can use trigger_createentity to make an info_checkpoint at any time.)
2) Unintentional mission starts — Mission cutscenes start just by approaching a leader. This should perhaps be accompanied by a sprite-like signal with a button/use necessary. New players just looking around won't know what they could be messing up.
Thanks,
Adam Reece.
your map had a different\outdated .res file meaning if players would have downloaded this map from a server, they would have missing textures, i resguyed it again and uploaded it but there are still favorite linux problems like uppercase names or spaces in the filenames, particually "sound/crimecity/music/MURDER IN MY MIND.wav", changing it to something like "sound/crimecity/music/murder_im_my_mind.wav" would fix the penguin problem
otherwise, the map is very enjoyable, there are some rough parts like optimization but its p good
Thank you very much for fixing the res file!!! I think I tried resguying it at an earlier state and forgoto to do it again o_o
