HINTS :
- For anyone having trouble with the third puzzle or unsure what to do: there are 6 papers on the ground, each with one letter and one number. The "???" in the hint represents a word, and the code itself is the phrase that comes after the colon. You must think of a sentence or word that needs the letter R twice and then delete one R. For example, if the answer were "no arrow", you would remove one R and enter "no arow" instead.
- To unlock the secret ending, you must open the secret door in the first map (deathwish.bsp) by finding a hidden key. The key is located in the eighth puzzle (the zombie maze, just before the teleport). Check your map, the secret entrance is marked with a lambda symbol (Half-Life Logo). Once you get there, look for a sign on a wall; break that wall to find the key.
-The map requires at least 2 players to complete. It is not designed for singleplayer, some sections require two people, such as boost jumps, pressing buttons simultaneously, and guiding each other. The second and fourth puzzles also require one player to use a box as a platform while another provides a boost to climb up.
- Most puzzles have signs with instructions. If you're confused, look around for them.
- If you don't know what to do at spawn before the puzzles begin, there is a hidden button somewhere nearby. Find it to trigger the first puzzle.

I really enjoyed the map overall: lots of puzzles, challenges, and enemies. I was going to say it reminded me of The Room (both the design and soundtrack) as well as Desastre, but then I realized that was actually intentional (I read this page)! I thought the puzzles in general were very well done. I played solo, but with teleport I was able to compensate for the lack of another player in map 1. However, the secret map gave me a huge amount of trouble, and I eventually had to play it on an XP server with weapon purchasing enabled.
That said, I would like to make some suggestions and criticisms:
- The code puzzle was confusing because there are 6 letters and the READ ME hint says “??? : I? S?R?”. There are 6 question marks and 6 letters on the floor, so I assumed each letter replaced one question mark. I actually got close, but only solved it because I happened to read the map description and noticed the hint about the “R”. The puzzle idea itself is fantastic, but the in-map hint ended up making things more confusing rather than helping.
- Still regarding that section, the buttons could use some sort of feedback. I never knew whether I was entering the code correctly or if it had reset.
- It seems like dropping items and weapons was intentionally disabled (and I apologize if this was just an installation issue on my side), but I couldn’t drop items at all. In the first map it wasn’t a problem because I could simply die and pick up the knife again when needed. However, in the secret level there are weapons scattered throughout the map, but I couldn’t drop the lamp that automatically appears on respawn. That made the level nearly impossible because the Alien Controllers are extremely strong and I was stuck with only a flashlight! Even if I were better at jumping, there are simply too many enemies.
- I also agree with the criticism below regarding the fast infinite respawns. I like the challenge the map provides, but to use a Brazilian Portuguese expression, I think the mapper “went a little too far” (pesou a mão).
Despite the criticism (and despite my hatred for the absurd amount of respawning enemies in the secret level) I still think the map as a whole is very good. I would only make a few adjustments!
PS: Do you mind if I make some little changes in the "hints" that you wrote on this page?
hello mau , thanks for the videos and for the review
yes im bad , very bad at clearing or giving hints , and yes there a reset message when you enter the code correctly or incorrectly , when you enter it the wrong code , it will said the code incorrect and reset
and yes you cant drop any weapons , just like afraid of monsters system , about secret level
i think its very clear , secret level is pretty hard and disaster and i cant edit it anymore since i lost the maps sources
- i dont mind at all , it will be helpful if you make some little changes.
thanks again.
That’s a shame! It would be really nice if that detail in the secret level could be adjusted. I imagine it’s much easier with a larger group of players, though.
Looking forward to the next map!
This map is a 3/4 out of 5 after getting the "bad" ending. When you get the normal (bad) ending, just end it there. We went and did the secret ending afterwards and it was horrendous. We spent probably 30 or 45 minutes attempting it before we started noclipping. This map would legitimately drive you insane if you did it without cheating. Long jumping puzzles with enemies that will endlessly respawn in the middle of the jumping puzzle and kill you, sending you back to the start. Mazes full of strong endlessly respawning enemies, etc. Do not play the secret ending version of the map and save yourself the trouble.
hey , thanks for the quick review , and yes i understand and agree with you , well i like making my maps very hard-impossible, and the secret map was a disaster , real disaster (i create the secret map because i felt the first map is way more easy) , but now im working on death-wish 2 and i try make it much easier to play and more possible to beat , thanks.
Very good map with good puzzles choices and mysteries to solve inspired by Afraid of monsters and Cry of Fear. Although, the map need very good skills and players to be able to finish it.
Let's play and see if this has improved upon the mistakes of the old one
hello Chimz76 , well this map is not a sequel of the room map , the room was just a small inspiration for me to make this map , maybe the design is similarity to the room map , but there is no connection between them.
Understandable, that's why I said successor instead of sequel. Probably should have used "spiritual successor" for highest clarity. Will be playing it with my mate soon
Oh my bad , looks like i misunderstood your comment , yes you can say that , a room's successor.
Enjoy !
