Desolation
Author | Mrfranswa |
Date of release | Final - 2003 |
.bsp filename | desolation, desolationp2 |
Description
You find yourself in a facility under attack by aliens, your mission is to reach a computer and defend it in time.
Additional info
This is an underrated short 2 map series from mr.franswa
Desolation Part 1: Features a lose condition about protecting an NPC at some point, and also features random pathing, meaning areas are opened or closed at map start leading to a slightly different expeirence each time the map is played.
Desolation Part 2: Features several lose conditions (protect NPCs, 30 minute timer) but players can choose to deactivate them at map start (which is recommended).
Additional credits
I would like to thank the svencoop community for the custom Aliens model, and their help. I'd also like to thank Prefabland for their cool lab doors, and turret prefab which I use throughout the series.

Please rename map name from desolation to desolationp1
since will conflict HLDM'S desolation
on China SC server (A.K.A. BDSC server and PVP server)
it would make sense if there were both in scmapdb but requesting a map to be renamed just for the game server doesn't cut to me tbh
I have attempted a fix to these series as best I could. They should be playable again! Enjoy.
Desolationp2 - "no available spawn points, please wait…"
Fixing the spawn points puts you in an elevator, which seems to fail in working.. Noclip gets you into an arena, then after finding a weak floor slab, you drop into an underground rail system where you dodge a garg and spawning aliens until a door timer expires and allows you to proceed. Some wall-clinging, then into a final arena where you can 'build' friendly turrets (I think, anyway) to defend against spawning monsters. The map ends after another timer.
Technically the map is 'losable' - it seems that if your two allies die, then you get "bad ending message" but since all the sequences seem to be broken, it's hard to say for sure..
Since there is not much combat, the main sequences are just waiting for various timers and much of it appears to be non-functional it's probably not worth fixing properly.. :/
ufff I remember playing the second map decades ago. But now not only there are no spawn points and all the sequences are broken but the map crashes upon loading.
I don't remember anything beyond dodging gargs, spawning gonomes and alienzombies in a pitch black environment in an underground rail system…
