This is a really good play through. Great use of stock textures, reminds me of how well they're used in YABMA. I like the exploration around and about too rather than a linear passage. I also like the use of NPCs from 4.x and on wards. Also like the strategic and non-excessive barnacle positioning, including the extra tough ones on above the important ladders.
I rate this 5/5 splendids. — Definitely one I'll remember to keep on my custom maps server cycle.
Edit: I noticed you made Dark Nebula a month earlier. Though I like that map too your mapping definitely stepped up a level with this. Outstanding progress!
Thanks,
Adam Reece.
Nicely thought through, then built with care.. end result, a couple of very tidy and playable maps! I particularly like the extended use of grapple to access many of the caches, it's an under-used asset and it's a lot of fun swinging around, reaching secret places.
Even the back-and-forth requirement isn't too tedious, because there's enough to keep your interest as you go, plus exploring definitely pays off. If monster spawning was related to number of players, it would be better still. Everything worked as it should, no anomalies encountered. Feels more like an SP mission though, I would say 1-3 co-op players, max of 4.
All in all, some very good work, now looking forward to the next ones! :)
Thank you very much for your comment!
My map style is like this one: Lineal, good ambience, rewards when exploring and with a lot of aliens in your way. I rarely add human enemies because I prefer the sci-fi factor. I sometimes try to spawn exclusive sven co op enemies like the Stukabats or Chumtoads too (they can be a bit annoying with the purple toxic cloud, I know, that is why I never spawn more than 2 at same time).
I'm working in a new campaign about 2-3 maps with the same style right now, with some custom enemies like the Panthereye :)
I did other map called sc_darknebula before this one, it is a bit worst obviously (it was my first map and I'm still a bit noob mapping) but if you are looking for a classic map about running and shoothing with decent ambience there you are!
