Map Review of crazy-labyrinth

Sorry, we couldn't find any images attached to this page.

The incredible thing about Robooto's body of work is that you never know what kind of madness it will lay upon your lap next. You're never entirely sure to what extent the map is a joke at the player's expense at to what extent it is actually just Robooto's boredom scouring Goldsrc for extreme anti-gameplay ideas and bringing them into existence just to make the world a little more chaotic.

Crazy Labyrinth is a long hallway winding back and forth, back and forth, mostly in the dark, utterly linearly, until it ends at a tiny brushwork award. The hallway is mostly homogenous all the way through. Any seeming offshoot is just a waste of time along the way, a deadend distraction.

Now, a map like that probably sounds like madness. Why would a person make a map like that? Because they want people to suffer?

Well, I'll get back to that. You see, before the map even begins, you must dump tons of damage into a destructible door that isn't even clearly destructible before it eventually breaks. Your journey into the labyrinth does not even begin until you have shattered the door. Before even that, there's a minor puzzle where the player must hold the jump button to prevent death via falling through a water block into a super edgy satanic pit below.

At some point, you have to wonder if this anti-gameplay exists as an attempt to prevent players from progressing through a map that they will likely unendingly claw at until they have conquered it. Like the famous quote about why people climb Mount Everest: because it's there. The award at the end of this long, arduous trek is utter bullshit and Robooto knows it- it's a cheeky nod to those who decided to see such a non-task through to its monotonous end.

I am going to stop writing about Crazy Labyrinth here because there's really nothing else to say about it. That is the entire map.

I would not recommend Crazy Labyrinth.

Pros:

  • It's almost punk rock how aggressively this map wastes your time.

Cons:

  • This map is an aggressive waste of time.
