Choose Campaign! Two lobby maps wherein players vote for a map to play.

choose_campaign_2 is a simple functional hub wherein players can stand in lots to vote for which specific map from the three main campaigns the players want. Voting lasts for roughly 2 minutes, after which point whichever map has the most votes wins. The server will then switch to that map.

choose_campaign_4a is a far more interesting map, though it gives players far less finesse in which map they wish to vote for. There are instead lots for voting for Half-Life, Half-Life: Blue Shift, Half-Life: Opposing Force, Half-Life: Uplink, Half-Life: Instinct, Earthquake Test Center II, They Hunger- but no options to select specific maps. Also, instead of the 2 minute timer until a map must be chosen- this time a timer starts (and stops) depending on if a player is standing in a lot to vote. They're then given 40 seconds until a decision must be made.

4a is also interesting in that it has an explorable environment, with a place for players to escape and look around. I found it very fun and atmospheric, as I am a sucker for floating islands and condemned buildings.

If you're looking for a lobby map in the year of our lord [insert the current year] when any player can votemap from a context menu, choose-campaign has a couple nifty ones. They're perfectly functional, even if one is memorable and one is not.

Pros:

  • I like the floating island in 4a
  • The voting works!

Cons:

  • Pretty pointless in this day and age
  • choose_campaign_2 is pretty boring and bland and does little to justify its continued existence
Score: 5.3 / 10
