Map review of Extraction
by w00tguy123 | April 14, 2025 | 920 characters
This is the ideal black-mesa-walkthrough map for me. The environment/lab is cool, believable, and lit interestingly. The action isn't too spread out nor too dense. There's plenty of cover and room to maneuver in combat. It's non-linear without being confusing. Skill jumps are fun and creative, not frustratingly hard. Few maps balance gameplay and visuals as well as this one.
I liked that the grunts run out to greet you in the first map. Details like that make the world feel alive, and less like shooting fish in a barrel.
My only complaint is it took a long time to find the elevator buttons in _a1. The door frames perfectly obscure them.
Pros:
- Gameplay
- Visuals
Cons:
- Elevator buttons
