Map review of Greendale Hospital
by Chimz | December 3, 2025 | 2377 characters
This was an enjoyable experience. Most Sven maps focus on giving you lots of guns and spamming you with enemies, focusing on chaotic action that soon turns boring and repetitive as every map ends up feeling the same.
Greendale however, gives you no weapons and instead throws you into an eerie environment and asks you to solve puzzles. It does remind me a bit of the Silent Hill 2 Remake as you are placed in an area with lots of interconnected rooms, locked doors that open from one way and etc. and are asked to slowly explore, unlock and find your way out.
There's a big focus on puzzle solving and most of them are enjoyable.
There are elements of horror here and there but not enough to make the entire map feel scary or oppressive.
The main issue is that the map is just too short. I don't know if there was going to be a part 2 or something, but as it is, the map can be finished in roughly 20 minutes and only 5 minutes of it are filled by the puzzles. The other 15 minutes is just running around trying to find stuff.
I understand this map has been recovered so, it was probably given up on. Still, it's a shame it didn't last longer as it was quite enjoyable.
The only other issue is that doors deal considerable damage when blocked. The reason why I'm not just brushing this off is that the map is FILLED WITH DOORS. Every 10 seconds you're going through one door, and since they auto-close, you will find yourself between a closing door a lot since you are constantly searching rooms that you want to exit from and also reaching closing doors that other players have opened.
Playing as a duo, my friend got killed by the doors 3 times and I got down to half health.
Also, the final bits feel rushed. You open the exit door just by entering a room and being notified by text that it somehow opened.
Other than that, it was a pretty cool experience and I'd recommend playing.
Pros:
- No weapons - a breathe of fresh air from all the other chaotic spamming maps
- Gameplay focused on exploring and puzzle solving
- Eerie atmosphere
Cons:
- Too short, like 20 minutes
- Map is filled with doors that deal lethal damage when closing
