The primary map image (shown below) uses the first image in the files list (alphanumeric order). You can change this by renaming any of the images with "0" in front to bring it to the top. It will be used as the map's thumbnail throughout site (and page background, unless overridden).

Description

Keen Birthday is a fun-walkthrough map made by fusing together different map sections made by different mappers into 2 complete maps. Currently in late beta development.

Additional info

Received BOMS status.

• In 2025 the community managed to recover the lost maps intended for the unfinished Keen Birthday Part 2. The maps were fixed, restored and merged into 2 extra maps: keen_birthday_part2 and keen_birthday_part2_2

Known bugs

• Rendering issues: Map 2 has some problems with rendering leaks of walls and floors near the Zebra bar area. Depending on your camera angle and player position some walls might disappear from your sight around the outside of the bar. I have made an ingame excuse to make this look a bit better. This is unfixable with any current tools (unless the map is recompiled properly, but of course this is not an option). This error might be present in some other areas I have not tested. But overall nothing will affect gameplay (so far)

+ v1 - May 28, 2025 (by Garompa)

• Recovered the following lost maps from the Part 2 of the series: kbd2a, kbd2z, kbdlounge, kbdp2_mall, kbdp2_str_boss
• Fixed, culled rooms, retextured, relighted (rad), and restored all the recovered maps and merged them into part2 and part2_2, all complete with all working features and final boss battle
• Added sounds to buttons, doors and other things that had them missing
• Many brushes now have the intended rendermodes (additive, solid, etc) that were previously missing or wrong
• Breakables now have proper health and materials assigned, and many of them required the Only trigger flag that was previously missing
• Fixed missing rendermodes on some sprites
• Fixed triggers for many things, including the picard coins
• Fixed counters for lots of things
• squadmakers now use the rendermodes properly
• Fixed wrong file references, specially for sounds
• Added the new playmode keyvalues on all sounds
• Fixed some wrong flags on some ambient generics
• Moved some music that was too close to others and deleted some duplicated music sounds (so its not an annoying soundfest. Also, lowered the radius on some of them because of the same reason, specially in the first map)
• Fixed impossibly and stupid amount of bugs at every corner, and restored broken or missing content
• Insane amount of stuff i just won't even remember now.
• Censored any NSFW texture (there were not many, just 1 or 2) and removed embedded textures from maps
• Put all textures into kbd_r.wad
• Created .cfg files
• Generated .res files and packed into a .zip

Original:

• Fixed bad references to files
• Fixed some typos and problems in soundlists and global replacement text files
• Removed duplicated files that were in other folders so only 1 file is used now. And fixed the file paths
• Merged texture and sequence files on models. Hopefully fixes the crash that was happening in some servers

• Regenerated .res files
• Repacked

Great lineup of mappers working on this one, sounds like it's been in development for a while too.. always good to see one being released for once instead of languishing in the map dev void… set up a playdate Adam so we can all check it out :)

Finally :D

I've had to delay this a little as I want to add some fairly significant content to part 2 that will take some time, dedication, and an ability for me to say no to perfection. With the discovery of copy pointer I can reduce the brush count in the first map significantly by reusing triggers all over the map, that should help a lot!
